Meandu Mine is owned by Stanwell and is used to supply coal to the Tarong Power Stations. This opportunity is based in the South Burnett and is responsible for the governance, coordination and implementation of elements of Meandu’s coal quality system.

About the role

This is a full-time opportunity located at Meandu Mine.

Design, develop, and govern the coal quality-management system to ensure effective recovery and consistent delivery across the coal chain.  Oversee the reconciliation of coal mass balance, CHPP yield, and coal qualities, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting to optimise resource energy recovery and maximise the value potential of the Meandu Coal Resource.

Key activities include:

  • Lead the design, development, and governance of the coal quality-management system, ensuring it aligns with operational goals and maximizes coal recovery at acceptable quality to specification agreed with Tarong Power Station.
  • Oversee contract governance and performance monitoring, ensuring compliance with the Mining Service Agreement (MSA).
  • Coordinate reconciliation reports covering Mine Production, Equipment Metrics, CHPP Production, and Coal Yield and Product Qualities,
  • Lead & take part in weekly and mid-month production meetings with the Mining Contractor for ongoing performance evaluation, with report back to Stanwell Management of developing issues.
  • Manage material sampling programs across the coal chain, including in-pit, on stockpile, and CHPP stages. Ensure coal quality verification through lab coordination and system integration (MRT, PowerBI) to maintain accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Utilise and as required provide operational and technical support for reporting systems like PowerBI ensuring accurate metrics tracking and reporting across the coal chain.
  • The role requires flexibility and adaptability, including being on-call and working unusual hours as needed to meet operational demands and ensure coal quality and delivery goals are achieved.

About you

  • Degree qualification in Process or Mining Engineering, Geology or a related field and/or relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in coal mining and coal recovery roles.
  • Proficiency and deep technical knowledge in coal processing, laboratory analysis, mining, washability, and reconciliation processes (essential).
  • Vulcan 3-D geological and spatial data modelling skills
  • Spry mine planning software experience sufficient to be able to interpret and interrogate.
  • Current Generic Surface Coal Mine Induction and Coal Board Medical 
  • Current Supervisory S1, S2, and S3 (certification in risk, safety & communication) (desirable).
